I went for a journalistic approach with this event, immersing myself in the people and not using any external lighting, just natural light that was available. This, however does pose issues. I have to pump up the ISO (light sensetivity) on the camera in order to gain enough light for each of the photos. This in turn elevates the 'noise' on the image. Noise is something photographers, generally, are not fond of.
Below is an example of a noisy image zoomed in. You can see the streaks of grain across the photo, not ideal in most situations:
Thankfully the brief has asked for 3 b&w photos. Grain and b&w go well hand in hand, the grain adding to the character of the photograph. It also gives it a texture unlike some of the 'perfect' digital processed photographs. The imperfection goes well with the rough side of drifting that i'm wanting to portray.
Above are two example of what I'd called finished images. I am over the moon with the latter image of a BMW E30 owned by the guy pictured above. I love the fact the lights give a slight haze over the front of the car. I decided to edited the image to amplify the haze. I think it works well. I really like the two people standing to the side. They give the viewer a good idea of how cold it was; wooly hats, coats and scarfs!
